Accra–Kumasi Expressway

About this project

Ghana's first modern six-lane bi-directional Class A Expressway linking Accra and Kumasi. Following further design and Right-of-Way work, the corridor now measures 176km, down from the 198.7km originally announced. As of 22 July 2026, the Ghana Armed Forces had cleared 122km (about 70%) of the 120-metre-wide Right-of-Way in 12 weeks, with the full corridor expected to be cleared by the first week of September 2026. Feasibility study and detailed engineering design are expected to be completed by the end of August 2026, with procurement for the main construction contract commencing in September 2026. US$1.7 billion has already been deposited into a dedicated, ring-fenced Accra-Kumasi Expressway Account at the Bank of Ghana, to be used only once the main construction contract is awarded.
